This weighted average calculator computes a credit-weighted mean of percentage marks. Each unit mark is multiplied by its credit points before the total is divided by combined credit — the same structure Uni uses for WAM when year-level weighting is not applied.

How the Calculation Works

Formula: weighted average = Σ(mark × cp) ÷ Σ(cp). A 82 in FIT2004 (6 cp) contributes 492 weighted points; an 82 in ENG1001 (12 cp) contributes 984 — double the influence despite the same percentage.

Weighted average = (78×6 + 72×6 + 85×6 + 69×6) ÷ 24 = 76.00%.

With equal credit, weighted equals simple mean — no divergence.

Mixed 6 cp and 12 cp load

Weighted = (88×12 + 71×6 + 74×6) ÷ 24 = 81.50%. Simple mean = 77.67%.

Formula Reminder

Credit-weighted average = Σ(mark × credit points) ÷ Σ(credit points). A 75 in a 12 cp unit contributes 900 weighted points; the same 75 in a 6 cp unit contributes 450. That is why students with identical simple means can have different official WAM when their credit loads differ.
