How the Calculation Works

Simple average = sum of marks ÷ count of marks. Credit-weighted average = Σ(mark × cp) ÷ Σ(cp) using only rows where both fields are filled.

When every unit shares the same credit load, both averages match. Divergence appears as soon as 12 cp and 6 cp units sit in the same list — the weighted figure is what Uni-style planning should follow.

Simple vs Weighted Grade Average

A simple grade average treats every mark equally — add all percentages and divide by the number of units. WAM does not work that way. Credit-weighted averaging gives more influence to 12-credit units than 6-credit electives, which is why a distinction in a core unit moves your degree average more than the same mark in a small breadth subject.
